Maharishi Foundation - the UK Charity

Aims of the charity

Maharishi Foundation, registered educational charity number 270157 (in Northern Ireland charity number X0610/9, an affiliate of Maharishi Foundation), was first established as an educational charity in 1975. The aim of the charity is to advance the education of the public by offering courses and services of the highest quality to develop the full mental and creative potential of the individual, including Transcendental Meditation and its advanced techniques.

The main courses offered are in Transcendental Meditation, as taught by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, and related advanced techniques and knowledge programmes. Maharishi Foundation is the only official organisation to offer these courses in the UK.

The charity publicises the benefits of Maharishi Foundation's services widely to make members of the public aware of what the Charity has to offer, and also make these programmes available more widely throughout the country.

Working with other agencies and fund raising

Regular consultations with education, health-care, business and other professionals are organised to plan the implementation of the Charity's services in different areas of society. For example, it promotse Consciousness-Based Education - a scientifically validated programme to eliminate stress and promote academic excellence amongst students and teachers - widely throughout the UK in schools.

Fund raising, through appeals for donors, is undertaken by the Charity to enable it to support the implementation of Maharishi's programmes in areas of special need. The Charity will also consider applications for scholarships for those on low incomes.

Research supported

Maharishi Foundation encourages and supports independent academic institutions to carry out scientific research into the benefits of Transcendental Meditation and its advanced techniques. More than 600 scientific studies, conducted at 250 independent universities and institutions in 33 countries and published in over 100 of the world's leading scientific journals, have already documented the wide-ranging benefits of the technique for every aspect of life - mind, body, behaviour, and society.
